Position: Culture, Events and Marketing Coordinator

Summary:
The Culture, Events and Marketing Coordinator is a full-time position that is primarily responsible to plan, organize, implement, supervise, and coordinate cultural, event and marketing activities. The position will develop goals, strategies, and plans to execute a marketing and promotional campaign to highlight the town’s unique product. This individual will serve as the point of contact for community events and activities as well as educational campaigns as determined through the Town’s communications strategy. The role is varied and may include different types of work and support for other areas of the Town. This role requires evening and weekend work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
§ Create sustainable and effective Town cultural events and programs which promote well being for the community and are in keeping with Town values.
§ Provide support to stakeholders holding events, including sporting events, within the Town that are aligned with Town values and Council priorities.
§ Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a broad range of events in an organized and systematic manner in keeping with current budgeted plans.
§ Responsible for the overall development and delivery of events, ensuring they are inclusive, comprehensive, age appropriate and contribute to the well being and development of participants.
§ Initiate research, development, and implementation of innovative marketing programs, including internet marketing, conventions, workshops, advertisements, brochures, newsletters, and other initiatives.
§ Work with the town on branding the town and developing support information for Business Development and education initiatives (spring lawn care for example).
§ Keep the public informed of what is happening within the Town by both public and private entities.
§ Develop marketing plans with budget requirements.
§ Research grants and other financial supports related to Arts, culture, heritage, and special events.
§ Assist in the development of event policies and procedures.
§ Assist with preparation of event budgets, monitor expenses, and ensure effective use of department resources, including staff.
§ Provide promotional/educational/marketing support to other Town Departments.
Develop and manage and key cultural community events including but not limited to Snow Fest, Canada Day, National Truth & Reconciliation Day, Corn Fest, Christmas Events, Halloween.
§ Assist other Departmental areas on an as needed basis or during slower seasons.
§ Develop, manage and produce materials to create a cohesive image and message for print, online and offline line communication vehicles including but not limited to: newsletters, brochures, information kits, annual reports, events.
§ Responsible for preparing thorough event evaluation and reports.
§ Volunteer recruitment, training, and coordination.
§ Liaise with businesses and community groups to seek out sponsorships, and or services that support events or Town initiatives.
§ Coordinate event logistics with other Town Departments.
§ Perform other such related duties, responsibilities and functions as may be assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
§ Experience with Adobe Image Ready/Photoshop, MS Work, Excel, and Publisher.
§ Creative, high energy and self starter.
§ Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task are required.
§ High degree of interpersonal communication and group facilitation skills required.
§ Interest and ability in the development of inclusive and cultural events for all age levels.
§ Proven team player and flexibility to work outside regular hours as required.
§ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community groups, schools, businesses, residents, and fellow employees.
§ Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
§ Ability to compile and maintain accurate records and reports.
§ Grant application writing abilities.
§ Ensure an environment that provides excellent customer service in the community.
Education and Experience:
§ Post secondary education in Event management or planning, Sport & Leisure Management, marketing, arts, culture, or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
§ Experience in research, marketing, community development, events, promotions, and program development for a variety of audiences.
§ Experience or ability to work within a diverse number of community groups and volunteers.
§ Demonstrated proficiency in internet marketing techniques including social media.
§ Strong interpersonal and group facilitation skills required.
§ Standard First Aid/CPR or ability to obtain immediately.
§ Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers and internal and external contacts.
§ Valid Class 5 driver’s license and ability to obtain Class 4 within the first six months.
§ Must have access to and use of a reliable vehicle (mileage will be compensated).
§ Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector required upon hire.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
§ Work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
§ Fill in for staff during turn over or unanticipated leaves of absence.
§ May require heavy lifting.
§ Safety gear may be required
§ Work indoors and outdoors
§ Travel to and from off location sites may be required.
