Message from Councillor Elaine Barnes
It has been a tremendous honour and a privilege to serve our community over the past 12 years. At this time, I must submit my official letter of resignation.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my fellow councillors and the dedicated staff both past and present. It has been a pleasure to work alongside such an incredibly committed team, and I am proud of what we have achieved together for the betterment of our town.
Most importantly, I want to thank the residents of Cornwall. Thank you for entrusting me with this role and for your continued support and engagement. Serving as your elected representative both on Council and with FPEIM has been an invaluable experience that I will always treasure.
Thanks to inspiration from Irene Dawson during my first term, she gave me a love of the Water and Sewer Utility by sharing her thoughts on the utmost importance to the future of Cornwall. Ensuring Cornwall had an adequate supply of water to see the town through continued growth was one of my priorities. Seeing the new water tower at the end stage having started the process of water exploration in 2016 will always give me a sense of pride when I see the new Water Tower. I would like to encourage council to continue down the path of education on water usage, having witnessed the benefits firsthand over the years without adding the additional financial burden of water meters on families.
Serving on Council with like minded individuals who saw the need for improved safety for our residents made changes possible. From improved lighting, speed humps, a Main Street and a new RCMP station in Cornwall, it shows that we listened to residents and I know you will keep up the amazing work.
I wish Council and our community continued success in all future endeavours and I will always hold you and our community close to my heart.
Sincerely,
Councillor Elaine Barnes
